A HISTORY OF THE 1ST EYNSFORD & FARNINGHAM SCOUT GROUP
A.J. (Mick) Williams
£2.00   A4, 33 pages, 2 sketches, 1 illustration, published 1994

The Local History Society has published a most interesting and amusing history of the 1st Eynsford and Farningham Scout Group, written by A.J. Williams ('Mick' to most of us). The story covers the Group from its inception in 1912 with 16 members - several of them with well-known village surnames - to the present day. Many of those involved in organising it are mentioned, from Miss Sydney Dyke, the founder-leader, to the present day leaders, covering a total of 80 years. Not forgotten are all the parents and other willing adults who raised the money and helped in many ways with the Group's multifarious activities. The story tells of Gang Shows, camps, fetes and many adventures, two of which resulted in the Award of Certificates of Meritorious Conduct. The 1962 Jubilee Year dinner at Lullingstone Castle is described by George Eves, a founder member, in a very evocative piece which sums up the fellowship and idealism of the Scout movement.
